Chapter 95 - Blood and Forgiveness

That evening, a crackling fire warmed the stone hearth of the alpine villa. Leo had fallen asleep in an upstairs bedroom, clutching his wooden toy, guarded by Marcus’s most trusted men.
Downstairs, the quiet was absolute. Alexander stood by the floor-to-ceiling glass doors, staring out at the moonlight reflecting on Lake Lucerne. On the cedar table beside him lay two documents: the formal liquidation of the Sterling Corporation and the final dissolution decree of his former, hollow life.
Elena walked into the room, two mugs of herbal tea in her hands. She set one before him and stood by his side, watching the silver ripples on the water.
"Victoria will spend the rest of her life in an ADX facility," Alexander said quietly, not looking up. "The Sterling Trust is being placed under independent trusteeship. Every cent Julian hidden, every dollar my father stole, is being funneled into foundations for the victims of the Syndicate. The $150,000,000 check I gave you..."
"I never cashed it, Alexander," Elena interrupted softly. "You know that now."
"I do," he whispered, turning to face her. The shadows under his eyes told the story of his torment. "And that is what haunts me most. I thought money was power. I thought I was protecting you by pushing you out of my life, but I was just a coward who couldn't see past my own wounded pride. I let my ex-wife poison my mind, I let my family orchestrate our ruin, and I left you alone... carrying our child."
He took a step closer, his eyes filled with an earnest, desperate plea for absolution.
"I don't expect you to forget what I did, Elena. I don't even know if I have the right to ask for your forgiveness. But I will spend every breath left in my body proving to you that I can be the man you deserved from the start."
Elena looked at him—not at the billionaire titan who once ruled Wall Street, but at the broken, bleeding man who had thrown his body in front of a gun for her. She reached up, her warm palm resting against his stubbled cheek.
"I spent three years being angry with you, Alexander," she said softly, a gentle smile gracing her lips. "I thought of you every time Leo smiled, because he has your eyes. And in that flower shop, while the world passed by, I realized something. You didn't hurt me because you were evil. You hurt me because you were trapped in a cage made of gold."
May you like
She leaned in, resting her forehead against his. "The cage is broken now. Let’s go home."
