Chapter 35 - The Arrival of the Matriarch

Every eye in the boardroom pivoted toward the entrance.
Elena Vance stood framed in the wide archway. The salt-stained coat and muddy boots of the coastal fishing docks were gone. In their place, she wore an exquisite, tailored midnight-navy wool trench coat over an ivory silk blouse. Her dark hair was pinned back in an elegant, sovereign chignon, highlighting the aristocratic sharpness of her cheekbones and the unflinching power in her dark eyes.
Behind her stood four federal agents in dark suits bearing federal prosecutor badges, accompanied by two armed United States Marshals.
Julianna stared at Elena as if looking at a ghost returned from the grave. For three years, Julianna had envisioned Elena as a broken, miserable creature rotting away in a forgotten seaside hamlet, clipping cheap flowers for spare change. But the woman standing before her possessed a regal, untouchable gravity that made Julianna look like an over-decorated pretender.
"Elena..." Alexander breathed, his voice laced with an overwhelming mix of awe and reverence.
Elena walked slowly into the boardroom. Her stride was neither hurried nor hesitant; it was the measured walk of someone who had survived the deepest darkness and emerged with iron in her blood. She did not look at Alexander immediately; her eyes remained locked on Marcus and Julianna Sterling.
"Three years ago, Marcus," Elena spoke, her melodic voice commanding the absolute silence of the vast hall, "you sent three men to my flower shop in Maine. You told them to burn down my greenhouse if I ever attempted to contact Alexander. You thought I was weak because I chose flowers over your venomous boardrooms. You thought peace was the same thing as helplessness."
She stopped beside Alexander. For a brief second, her fingers brushed against his coat, an electric reassurance that sent a tremor through his entire frame.
"I didn't open that flower shop to hide," Elena continued, turning to face the terrified board members. "I opened it because the rare night-blooming orchids you monitored via satellite were the biometric relay points for our family’s off-grid server nodes. Every single transmission your mercenary team sent from the coast was intercepted, decoded, and handed directly to the Department of Justice."
The lead federal marshal stepped forward, pulling a thick warrant from his jacket.
"Marcus Sterling, Julianna Sterling," the agent announced, his voice booming across the chamber. "By order of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, you are under arrest for corporate espionage, grand larceny, wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit attempted murder."
"Attempted murder?" Marcus croaked, his hands shaking violently as he backed away toward the panoramic window. "That’s absurd! You have no proof of such an outrageous claim!"

"We have the surviving crew of the trawler *The Iron Maiden*," Alexander cut in, his eyes blazing with righteous hatred. "We have the tactical comm logs from the mercenaries you paid six million dollars to storm my wife's home last night. And we have your voice, Marcus, authorizing the kill order on my son."
