Chapter 88 - Infiltration of the Glass Spire

The rain fell in gentle silver sheets over the cobblestones of Zurich’s old town. Outside the illuminated neoclassical facade of the Kunsthaus, an endless parade of black Maybachs and Bentleys dropped off the global elite, their tuxedos and diamond necklaces glistening beneath the umbrella-lined red carpet.
Security was impenetrable. Private paramilitaries in plainclothes patrolled every perimeter with biometric scanners, checking retinal prints against an exclusive guest register.
Stepping out of a sleek black Audi A8 at the side entrance was a man in an immaculate midnight-blue Tom Ford tuxedo, his arm wrapped around the waist of an ethereal woman in an emerald-green silk backless gown.
Alexander Vance’s bruised shoulder was hidden beneath the sharp tailoring of his suit. His jaw was cleanly shaved, his dark hair combed back, his posture radiating the untouchable arrogance of a multi-billionaire who feared nothing.
Beside him, Elena Sinclair was breathtaking. Her hair was pinned in an elegant chignon, her emerald gown highlighting the grace of her swan-like neck. Around her throat hung a single, dazzling heirloom: the teardrop emerald necklace her father had given her mother on their wedding day.
Hidden beneath the high silk collar of her dress, however, was a micro-transceiver connected directly to Marcus, who was stationed in a surveillance van four blocks away with Leo safely guarded in a diplomatic safe house secured by Alexander's most trusted former intelligence contacts.
"Retinal scan confirmed," the security terminal chimed softly. "Welcome, Lord and Lady Montgomery."
They passed through the heavy oak doors into the grand ballroom, where crystal chandeliers reflected off polished marble floors. Classical violins played a haunting waltz as the architects of global misery mingled over caviar and champagne.
"You look magnificent," Alexander murmured, leaning down slightly as they navigated the edge of the crowd.
Elena’s hand tightened slightly on his bicep. "I feel like I'm walking into a serpent's nest."
"You are," Alexander said softly, his eyes scanning the mezzanine levels, cataloging every exit, every armed guard, and every hidden camera. "The entire room is packed with Sovereign council members. But they have one fatal weakness."
"Which is?"
"Greed," Alexander whispered. "They think we're running for our lives. They don't know that three hours ago, I liquidated twelve offshore accounts and injected forty billion dollars of unsecured liquidity directly into their private settlement clearinghouse."

Elena looked at him, startled. "Alexander, that’s your entire family fortune!"
"Money is just paper, Elena," Alexander said, his eyes burning with intense devotion. "I bought my way out of our marriage once. Tonight, I'm buying our family’s freedom. When that auction begins, Victoria isn't going to buy Julian’s journals. I am."
