Chapter 55 - The Awakening of Leo

Before Alexander could process the crushing weight of Mercer's revelations, an alarm chimed sharply from the medical monitors beside the bed.
Elena spun around. Leo’s body was arching, a soft, golden luminescence flickering faintly beneath the skin of his wrists. The child let out a low whimper, his eyes fluttering open, pupils dilated and glowing with a faint, unnatural iridescence that mirrored the illuminated liquid of the cryogenic tube.
"Leo!" Elena cried out, lunging to the bedside and grabbing his hands. "What’s happening to him? What did you do to my son?!"
Alexander drew his weapon in a flash, leveling it directly between Mercer’s eyes. "Shut it down, Mercer! Whatever you're running on him, shut it down right now!"
The armed guards raised their carbines, but Mercer held up a single palm, ordering them to stand down. His face was devoid of malice; instead, it showed an expression bordering on religious awe.
"Lower your weapon, Alexander. We have done nothing to him," Mercer breathed, stepping closer to the bed, his hands slightly trembling. "It is the ambient resonance of the *Nautilus*. This vessel carries the core sovereign relay. The boy's genetics are responding to the localized transmission."
"What does that mean?!" Elena yelled, tears streaming down her face as she cradled Leo against her chest. The boy's skin was warm now, but the strange light beneath his veins slowly faded, his breathing stabilizing once more as he drifted back into a deep, natural sleep.
"It means," Mercer explained softly, "that Archibald Sterling's research was never about corporate dominance. It was about bio-encrypted wealth. Twenty-five years ago, the Vance and Sterling dynasties converted their collective physical assets—gold, land titles, sovereign bonds—into decentralized, cold-storage quantum networks. The encryption keys were synthesized into unique synthetic DNA sequences."
Mercer looked at Elena, his gaze reverent and terrifying.
"The bracelet in that tube does not just contain a name, Elena. It contains the dormant genetic primer. When you gave birth to Leo, the Vance and Sterling genetic sequences merged. Your son is not merely an heir. His biological code is the solitary master key capable of authorizing the transfer of three trillion dollars in global infrastructure."
Elena’s blood ran cold. She remembered the peaceful days in her coastal flower shop, clipping roses, watching Leo draw pictures on the wooden floor, believing their greatest struggle was paying the winter heating bill.
"Julianna didn't track you to that coastal town just to gloat," Alexander whispered, the horror dawning on him completely. "She didn't want the flower shop. She wanted Leo."
May you like
"Precisely," Mercer nodded grimly. "And Julianna is not working alone. She survived the rig’s collapse."
