Chapter 65 - The Geneva Cipher

The flight through Swedish and German airspace was conducted beneath radar coverage, cruising at low altitudes before Mercer filed a falsified visual flight plan into a private airstrip nestled in the Jura mountains, just across the French-Swiss border.

During the four-hour flight, Elena worked tirelessly on the extracted drive. Sifting through layers of encrypted subroutines, she hit a hidden partition—one that had not been created by Richard Vance.

"Alexander, look at this," Elena called out over the dull drone of the turboprop engines.

Alexander leaned over her shoulder. The partition bore an old analog timestamp from twenty-two years ago, labeled simply: *ELEANOR'S LEDGER.*

"My mother," Alexander whispered. "She died when I was twelve. Richard claimed it was an offshore sailing accident."

Elena bypassed the secondary encryption using a sequence of dates—not Alexander’s birthday, but the founding date of Elena's mother’s original floral cooperative in New York. The screen flashed green.

"Your mother didn't drown," Elena said, her eyes scanning the decrypted journal entries with mounting horror. "She discovered Richard’s syndicate connections two decades ago. She realized he was creating an artificial financial black hole to manipulate global debt. Before Richard could eliminate her, she split the master security keys. One half went into the Vance corporate treasury. The other half... she gave to my mother."

"That’s why he targeted you," Alexander said, the terrifying tapestry finally completing itself. "Our marriage wasn't an accident. Richard approved our wedding three years ago not because he tolerated you, but because he believed marrying us together would automatically bridge the two security halves. But my mother was smarter than him. She added a condition: the vault could only be claimed if the marriage was unbroken."

"And when Julianna manipulated you into the divorce," Elena finished, "Richard’s automated claim collapsed. By forcing the divorce, he accidentally locked himself out of his own sovereign vault. He spent the last three years trying to rebuild the bypass—and the moment Leo was born, our son became the genetic bridge that replaced the broken marriage contract."

Alexander felt a chilling wave of fury surge through his veins. "He doesn't just want Leo for the money. If he presents Leo to the council tomorrow night, he legally adopts him as the sole sovereign heir under Swiss trust law, stripping you and me of every parental and legal right on earth."

"Then we don't just infiltrate the gala," Elena said, slamming the laptop shut with a decisive snap. "We burn his empire to the waterline."
