Chapter 58 - The Bloodline Treaty

They descended four subterranean levels, passing through darkened corridors lined with humming server racks that stretched into infinity. Every screen flickered with red emergency alerts: *INTRUSION DETECTED. SECTOR 4 LOCKDOWN IN EFFECT.*
As they approached the massive circular vault door of the Inner Sanctum—a twelve-foot-thick disc of polished titanium—the emergency lighting suddenly switched from red to an icy, blinding white.
The automated point-defense turrets recessed in the ceiling whirred to life, their sensor lenses locking directly onto Elena and the sleeping child on her chest.
"Elena, stand still," Alexander warned, raising his hands slowly.
The central scanner swept a vertical beam of emerald light across Elena’s face, then focused down onto Leo’s forehead. A synthetic, melodic chime echoed through the silent vault.
*BIOMETRIC CONFIRMATION: STERLING, ELENA. PRIMARY HEIR DETECTED.*
*SUBSIDIARY KEY: VANCE-STERLING, LEO. CONSANGUINITY: 99.8%.*
*DEFENSE PROTOCOLS SUSPENDED. WELCOME, ARCHON.*
The massive titanium vault door groaned, hydraulic bolts disengaging with deafening clanks, slowly swinging inward.
"It recognized you," Mercer whispered in awe. "The automated systems belong to you now."
They stepped into the Inner Sanctum. It was a vast, domed chamber centered around a circular black marble dais. At the center of the dais stood the Sovereign Terminal, a crystalline pillar housing the master physical ledger—a leather-bound codex dating back two centuries, flanked by quantum terminals holding the digital sovereign certificates.
Standing before the terminal, her back to them, was a woman dressed in a blood-splattered white fur coat.
Julianna Sterling turned around.
Her face was pale, marked with a jagged cut across her cheek from the rig explosion, her eyes wide with a frantic, feverish madness. In her right hand, she held a military-grade detonator wired directly to thermite charges strapped around the base of the central terminal.
Surrounding her were four surviving mercenaries of the Iron Vanguard, their weapons instantly snapping toward Alexander and Mercer.

"You really are a cockroach, Alexander," Julianna hissed, a wild, venomous laugh escaping her lips. "I blew an entire offshore platform to hell, and you still crawl out of the sea with your pathetic little family."
