Chapter 17 - A New Face in the Atrium

The ground-floor atrium of Ellison Global was bathed in the warm, natural sunlight pouring through the massive glass facade. Employees bustled back and forth, collaborating on cutting-edge software architectures and discussing community outreach programs. At the center of it all, three-year-old Lily was busy arranging a colorful display of building blocks on her custom play rug, proudly overseen by her mother, Rosa, who now managed the entire corporate hospitality division with extraordinary grace.
Amidst the morning rush, a woman stepped through the security revolving doors. She didn't look like a typical corporate executive or a Wall Street investor. She wore a tailored charcoal blazer over a simple silk blouse, carrying a leather portfolio under one arm. Her observant, intelligent eyes scanned the grand architecture with a mixture of professional curiosity and calm confidence.
Her name was Dr. Elena Vance—no relation to the disgraced Harrison Vance, but rather an internationally renowned corporate psychologist and organizational ethicist brought in by the new independent board to audit the company's internal wellness and structural alignment.
Elena approached the central reception desk, but before she could speak, a tiny figure in pink socks darted across the polished marble floor, dragging a battered stuffed rabbit by its worn ear. Lily stopped directly in front of Elena, tilting her head up with fearless curiosity.
"Hello," Lily announced brightly, holding out a small wooden block. "Are you here to build a castle, or are you looking for the bad guys?"
Elena blinked in surprise, her professional composure melting instantly into a warm, genuine smile. She knelt down to Lily's eye level, gently accepting the wooden block.
"Well," Elena replied with a soft laugh, "I suppose I'm here to make sure no bad guys ever build anything around here again. I'm Elena."
Rosa hurried over, her cheeks flushing slightly with polite embarrassment. "Oh, I am so sorry, Miss...?"
"Dr. Elena Vance," Elena supplied gracefully, standing up to meet Rosa’s gaze. "And please, no need to apologize. Your daughter has exceptional taste in architectural assistants."

Rosa smiled, recognizing the name from the internal staff notices. "Ah, Dr. Vance. We've been expecting you upstairs. Mr. Ellison briefed the department heads about your corporate ethics audit this morning."
Before Elena could respond, a familiar, deep voice echoed across the atrium. "Dr. Vance, welcome to Ellison Global."
