Chapter 12 - Shadows Crawling Through the Brooklyn Mill

The rusted, towering iron gates of the abandoned industrial textile mill in Brooklyn groaned ominously under the relentless pressure of a freezing autumn gale. Sleet and rain slicked the cracked, weed-choked asphalt of the massive interior courtyard, reflecting the sickly amber glow of distant, flickering municipal streetlamps. The vast complex—once a thriving hub of industrial labor—now stood as a desolate, cavernous ghost town, making it the ultimate tactical playground for illegal corporate espionage and clandestine operations.
Cutting smoothly through the swirling mist, a sleek, matte-black armored transport van slipped silently through the perimeter security gate. Its headlights were completely extinguished, running entirely on thermal-imaging navigation arrays. The vehicle glided to a halt right beside Loading Bay 4, its heavy steel tires crunching softly against broken glass and gravel.
The reinforced side doors slid open with barely a mechanical whisper. Out spilled four heavily armed mercenaries, clad head-to-toe in matte-black tactical stealth gear, their faces concealed behind reinforced composite visors and dark balaclavas.
Leading the strike team was Kaelen. His cold, scarred face bore the chilling expression of a man who viewed human life as an expendable variable in a mathematical equation. His gloved hand rested securely on the ergonomic grip of a customized, suppressed submachine gun, weapon safety clicked off and ready for immediate deployment. He paused for a fraction of a second, sweeping his gaze across the desolate courtyard with elite military precision. His eyes narrowed instantly as he spotted the faint, blinking amber status light of a server rack shining directly through a shattered, grime-encrusted second-story window.
"All teams, check in. Status report," Kaelen hissed into his encrypted lapel comms link, his voice carrying the rasp of a seasoned killer.
"Alpha team is locked into position by the eastern stairwell, boss. Zero civilian presence detected," a gruff voice crackled back through the secure frequency. "Beta team is holding the rear perimeter alleyways. Sector is dead quiet... almost too quiet. It feels like a setup."
May you like
Kaelen grunted softly, dismissing the unease with a harsh flick of his wrist. "It’s quiet because Ellison is trapped in his ivory tower in Manhattan, relying on software filters to protect a hardware empire. He completely forgot about the forgotten industrial underbelly of the boroughs. Move in. Secure the main server stack, download the Prometheus core files onto the master drive, and leave no survivors to tell the tale."
The operatives moved with chilling, synchronized efficiency. They slipped through a rusted side maintenance door like shadows melting into a dark room, swallowing the pitch-black corridors of the old mill. They firmly believed they were the predators stalking a helpless prey. They had no conceptual awareness that they were walking directly into the center of a meticulously coordinated federal and corporate extermination trap.
