Chapter 11 - The Decoy and the Masterminded Trap

The digital trap engineered within the hyper-secure mainframes of Ellison Global Technologies was a masterpiece of proactive cyber warfare. Arthur Vance sat rigidly before the primary terminal array, his fingers flying across the mechanical keyboard as he finalized a complex sequence of honeypot protocols. To any outside intelligence agency or rogue mercenary syndicate, the data packet currently broadcasting across the dark-web intelligence channels looked indistinguishable from the holy grail of modern corporate assets: the complete, unencrypted secondary architecture of Project Prometheus.

In reality, the broadcast was a sophisticated digital ghost—a decoy designed to bleed tracking telemetry back to its source the exact microsecond an unauthorized decryption cluster attempted to extract it.

Marcus Ellison stood directly behind Arthur, his imposing figure silhouetted by the soft amber glow of the multi-tiered wall monitors. His sharp features were carved in stone, his eyes reflecting lines of scrolling hex-code and global satellite coordinates. For weeks, Marcus had refused to let the ghost of the previous corporate conspiracy rest. Even though Diana Caldwell sat in a maximum-security federal holding facility and Harrison Vance was isolated behind federal indictment walls, Marcus knew that the international umbrella syndicate known as The Vanguard Group would not simply let multi-billion-dollar technology slip through their fingers without a violent retaliation.

"The decoy has been fully ingested by the target IP cluster," Arthur announced, a tight, triumphant grin breaking across his face as he watched the ping response metrics spike on the central monitor. "Kaelen’s local proxy server just queried the node. He believes he has found a critical vulnerability left behind in our old Brooklyn manufacturing facility's legacy network architecture."

Marcus did not smile. He knew the psychology of high-end corporate mercenaries like Kaelen. They were driven by ruthless arrogance, desperate to salvage their reputation after the public debacle of the Manhattan engagement gala. They operated under the assumption that a billionaire trapped in a penthouse would rely solely on digital defenses, completely blind to physical infiltration in the forgotten industrial sectors of the outer boroughs.

"He won't send lower-tier operatives this time," Marcus said, his voice dropping into a low, measured register that commanded total authority in the control room. "Kaelen will lead the assault personally. He wants the code, and more importantly, he wants to erase any loose ends that could connect him back to Zurich."

"Our tactical containment teams are already locked and loaded across the perimeter of the Brooklyn facility," Arthur confirmed, pulling up a secondary display showing live thermal heat maps of the target zone. "Every egress point is sealed by reinforced pneumatic shutters. Bulletproof transport units are stationed in the underground service tunnels. The moment Kaelen’s team breaches the inner sanctum, we drop both the digital and physical cage simultaneously."

Despite the mathematical perfection of the plan, a heavy, protective shadow lingered over Marcus's mind. His primary directive above all financial metrics, market valuations, and technical patents was simple: absolute security for Rosa and little Lily. While the decoy site in Brooklyn served as a brilliant lightning rod to draw Kaelen’s violent attention away from Manhattan, Marcus had secretly relocated Rosa and Lily to an impenetrable, state-of-the-art residential safehouse nestled deep in the upstate hills, guarded around the clock by his most trusted, elite personal security detail.

Yet, Marcus knew that true, permanent safety could only be achieved once the syndicate was completely dismantled. As the digital clock blinked midnight, the countdown to the final, inevitable confrontation began.
