Chapter 10 - The Calm Before the Storm

Midnight descended upon Manhattan, wrapping the city in a blanket of neon lights, deep shadows, and restless energy. Inside the ultra-secure residential suite on the top floor of the Ellison Global compound—now fortified with state-of-the-art biometric locks, reinforced ballistic glass, and silent panic rooms—Rosa and Lily slept soundly in comfortable, safe beds, far away from the dangers of their past life.
Two floors down, Marcus Ellison sat alone in his private study, the ambient glow of multiple holographic monitors illuminating his sharp, focused face. He was reviewing the decrypted packets recovered from the fleeing sedan’s tracking signature. Arthur Vance stood beside him, scrolling through a complex web of offshore financial accounts and dark-web communication nodes.
"Kaelen," Marcus said quietly, pointing to a scarred, menacing face appearing on the main display screen. "Former military intelligence operative turned high-end corporate mercenary. He’s the new muscle behind The Vanguard Group, and he’s directly targeting anyone connected to the engagement gala exposure."
"He’s dangerous, boss," Arthur warned, tapping a dossier file. "Kaelen doesn't just want corporate secrets anymore. He wants retribution. He knows he can't get to you directly through your cyber-defenses, so he’s going to try to exploit your emotional anchors—Rosa and Lily."
Marcus’s eyes hardened into shards of ice. The mere thought of anyone threatening the little girl who had saved his life ignited a cold, lethal fury deep within his chest.
"We don't wait for him to make the first move," Marcus commanded, his voice carrying the absolute authority of a billionaire warlord protecting his kingdom. "We lay our own trap. We feed Kaelen a false vulnerability, drawing him and his entire syndicate cell right into our hands."
Arthur grinned, a fierce light in his eyes. "What's the play, Marcus?"

"We leak a fake decryption key for Project Prometheus," Marcus replied, typing rapidly on his console. "We stage a high-profile transfer at the old manufacturing facility in Brooklyn tomorrow night. Kaelen won't be able to resist taking the bait."
As the digital trap locked into place across the global network, Marcus looked out the reinforced window toward the sleeping quarters upstairs. The storm was coming, but he was more than prepared to weather it.
