Chapter 29 - Blood in the Grand Foyer

"Marcus! Put that down!" Helen barked, but for the first time, her commanding voice failed to control her remaining son.
"You said she was our ticket out!" Marcus raged, grabbing Vanessa by the lapels of her jacket and lifting her off the ground, shoving the barrel of the gun against her temple. "You said this worthless little event planner could keep the girl quiet until the buyout! Now everything is gone! My company! My legacy! My life!"
"Marcus, please!" Vanessa shrieked, wetting herself in sheer terror, clawing at his iron grip. "Eleanor! Help me!"
I gripped the edge of the console, my instincts as an older sister screaming at me to look away, yet my sense of justice rooted me to the floor. Vanessa had sold us. She had stolen Clara’s life, treated Lily like an animal to be harvested, and danced on Arthur’s grave.
"Open the elevator, Clara," I whispered, my voice shaking. "We can't let him execute her. The feds need her alive to testify."
"If I open that elevator, Marcus will come down here with everything he has left," Clara warned, her finger hovering over the manual override. "He’s a cornered animal with nothing to lose."
"He won't make it to the bunker," a voice echoed through the comms.
Suddenly, the reinforced steel storm shutters of the grand foyer didn't slide open—they were blown apart from the outside.
A thunderous shockwave ripped through the upper manor as multiple flashbang grenades detonated simultaneously. The surveillance feed was momentarily blinded by searing white light. Through the smoke, dozens of heavily armed federal SWAT operatives poured through the shattered windows, clad in full tactical combat gear.
"FEDERAL AGENTS! DROP THE WEAPONS! DOWN ON THE GROUND! NOW!"
"Die, you bitch!" Marcus screamed, pulling the trigger.
*BANG.*
Vanessa fell to the ground with a shrill cry as a bullet grazed her shoulder. Before Marcus could fire a second shot, three red sniper dots settled on his chest from the terrace windows.
A synchronized volley of rifle fire cut through the smoke. Marcus Sterling was thrown backward across the foyer, crashing through the glass dining table he had gifted Vanessa just three months ago, collapsing in a heap of broken crystal and pooling blood.
Helen Sterling slowly raised her silver-tipped cane above her head, her face an unreadable mask of cold, ancient defiance as tactical officers swarmed her, pinning her against the marble floor and securing her wrists with heavy zip-ties.
Vanessa lay on the floor, weeping hysterically, clutching her bleeding shoulder as federal agents cuffed her and dragged her out into the pouring rain.
The Sterling empire had fallen.
The battle for Rosewood was over.
Down in the subterranean bunker, the silence returned, thick and profound, broken only by the steady hum of Julian’s servers.
Clara slumped against the examination table, her strength finally exhausted, her tactical coat soaked in blood. I rushed to her side, supporting her weight as she breathed heavily, tears finally welling in her amber eyes.
Lily walked over and wrapped her small arms around Clara’s waist.
"We did it, Mommy," Lily whispered.
Clara buried her face in her daughter’s hair, weeping openly for the first time in nine years. "We're safe, baby. We're finally safe."
I let out a long, ragged exhale, looking around the massive underground fortress. Arthur was gone, but his mission had been fulfilled. The truth had seen the light of day.

Then, behind us, a single monitor that had remained dark this entire time suddenly clicked on.
