Chapter 9 - The Broadcast

The arrest of Madison and Eleanor Montgomery was captured by every news helicopter hovering above the estate. The images of Madison Montgomery—the former queen of Instagram aesthetics—being escorted out in handcuffs, sobbing hysterically with mascara running down her ruined face, became the most viral image on the planet.

Eleanor fought the officers every step of the way, screaming obscenities, threatening everyone from the Governor to the Chief of Police, until she was firmly forced into the back of a patrol car.

At noon, Ethan held an official press conference in the auditorium of the Vance Logistics corporate headquarters. Over one hundred accredited journalists packed the hall, the sound of flashing cameras creating a blinding rhythm.

Ethan took the podium alone. He wore no jewelry, no engagement ring—only a simple black suit.

"Good afternoon," Ethan began, his voice commanding and crystal clear. "I will not be answering questions regarding my personal wealth or business ventures today. I am here solely as a father."

The room went dead silent.

"Yesterday, an unforgivable act of cruelty took place under my roof," Ethan continued. "My daughter, Sophie, was subjected to psychological terror and physical abuse by individuals who were invited into our lives under the pretense of love and family. Too often, people in positions of wealth and influence hide these horrors behind NDAs, settlements, and public relations firms."

Ethan paused, his gaze sweeping across the reporters.

"I will not be offering an NDA. I will not be agreeing to any settlement. Every dollar of Madison and Eleanor Montgomery’s assets that can be legally claimed through our civil action will be seized and transferred entirely into a newly created national foundation: The Sophie Vance Fund for Abused and Exploited Children."

A murmur of astonishment swept through the room.

"Furthermore," Ethan said, his voice tightening with unshakable authority, "let this serve as a message to anyone who believes a child's voice can be silenced through fear: no amount of money, no social standing, and no polished digital image can protect you from the consequences of cruelty. The justice system will handle the Montgomery family. My focus will remain where it should have been all along—protecting and raising my daughter."

With that, Ethan stepped away from the podium. He did not look back. He did not entertain the dozens of shouting journalists waving microphones.

By that evening, the District Attorney formally announced the charges: both Madison and Eleanor Montgomery were denied bail due to flight risk and the discovery of forged trust fund documentation, facing up to twelve years in state prison. Their brand partnerships were gone. Their family estate was placed into immediate foreclosure. Their legacy was utterly, irreversibly annihilated.
