Chapter 7 - The Counter-Strike

By dawn, the wrought-iron gates of the Blackwood estate were swarmed by news vans, paparazzi with telephoto lenses, and curious onlookers. Helicopters buzzed in the distance, their blades chopping the morning mist.

Inside the quiet nursery, Ethan sat beside Sophie’s bed. The child had finally fallen into a deep, peaceful sleep, her small chest rising and falling rhythmically beneath the fleece blanket. Ethan gently smoothed a lock of hair from her forehead, his eyes full of tenderness.

"You won't ever have to hide in this house again, Soph," he whispered.

He stood up, adjusted the cuffs of his crisp white shirt, and walked down to the war room.

Marcus and Arthur Vance were already waiting. Arthur, immaculate in a three-piece charcoal suit, held a thick legal binder.

"The injunction is filed," Arthur stated. "We have also filed a formal criminal report with the District Attorney for aggravated child abuse, false imprisonment, and extortion against both Madison Montgomery and Eleanor Montgomery."

"What about the media rollout?" Ethan asked.

"Our digital team created a dedicated portal," Marcus explained, pointing to a secure server monitor. "It contains five distinct sections. Section One: Full 4K synchronized footage from four guest phones showing Madison intentionally tripping Sophie, shoving her into the pool, and tying her hands with ribbons. Section Two: Audio from Eleanor commanding Madison to 'tie the brat up.' Section Three: The night-vision footage and audio logs from the nursery where Madison tells Sophie her mother died because of her. Section Four: The Montgomery financial debts and the emails detailing their plot to loot the eighty-million-dollar trust. Section Five: Complete, unedited security footage proving Ethan never laid a hand on anyone until Eleanor attempted to strike Sophie."

Ethan looked at the digital package. It was a masterpiece of surgical destruction.

"Push it live to every major news outlet, every social media network, and every corporate sponsor Madison currently holds a contract with," Ethan ordered. "And send a personal copy to Eleanor Montgomery’s primary mortgage lender."

"Sent," Marcus said, hitting the enter key.

At 8:01 AM, the media world exploded.

The morning talk show *Good Morning America*, which was halfway through an interview segment analyzing Madison’s midnight livestream, suddenly cut to breaking news.

"We are receiving massive, unprecedented video evidence from Ethan Vance’s legal team," the anchor stammered, his earpiece buzzing with frantic instructions from the control room. "Viewers... what you are about to see is graphic and disturbing. This is raw, unedited footage from the Vance engagement party yesterday evening."

On live television, across fifty million households, the clip played.

The nation watched in stunned silence as Madison Montgomery tripped a six-year-old child. They watched her shove Sophie into the deep pool. They heard Eleanor’s cruel commands. And then, the audio of Madison in the dark nursery was broadcast—her terrifying, abusive whispers echoing through the speakers of millions of homes.

Within fifteen minutes, the hashtag *#JusticeForMadison* was completely erased from the internet, replaced by a roaring, unified wave of fury:

*#ArrestMadisonMontgomery*

*#MonsterMadison*

*#ProtectSophieVance*

Brand after brand began severing ties in real-time. Cosmetic companies, luxury fashion houses, and lifestyle sponsors released frantic statements terminating their ambassadorships with immediate effect.
