Chapter 84 - The Acoustic Seal

"Sit," Lorenzo commanded, gesturing toward the two steel chairs positioned on our side of the granite table. His dark eyes barely glanced at Vincent's bandaged shoulder, fixing instead entirely on Maya, who tucked herself tightly behind my legs.

"We aren't here for a family dinner, Father," Vincent said, his voice flat and lethal. He remained standing, his right hand resting casually inside the pocket of his overcoat. "You have the arbiters on the line from Zurich. Let's finish this."

On the granite table sat an open, encrypted terminal linked directly to the Swiss banking consortium. On the screen, a red progress bar was blinking, paused at ninety-nine percent: *AWAITING BIOMETRIC INHERITANCE CONFIRMATION.*

Beside the terminal was an acoustic receiver—a delicate, gold-plated sensor designed to measure sub-audible biological frequencies.

Valerie stepped forward, her eyes darting between Lorenzo and Vincent. "The agreement stands, Lorenzo. A third of the asset liquidation transferred to my offshore shell in Panama, or I instruct my operatives in Milan to leak the syndicate's operational ledgers to Interpol."

Lorenzo didn't even look at her. He waved a dismissive hand, treating her threat as nothing more than the buzzing of an insect. "You will get what you deserve, Valerie. You always do."

He turned his chilling gaze to me. "Clara. Bring the child forward."

"Don't touch her," I said, my knuckles whitening around the strap of my bag. "You killed her mother. You hunted Julian until his heart gave out in Geneva. You don't get to touch this child."

"Julian was a sentimental fool, just like his brother," Lorenzo sneered, his mask of paternal dignity finally cracking to reveal the ravenous monster beneath. "He thought he could escape the blood debt of this family. But everything he built, every euro he hid, belongs to the name De Marco. Place the girl’s hand on the acoustic sensor, Clara. Or my men will execute you in front of her, and I will place her corpse on the scanner myself."

The four executioners raised their rifles, the red laser sights locking onto my forehead and chest.

"Clara," Vincent said quietly.

I looked at him. His expression was completely blank, but there was a micro-signal in the slight tilt of his head—a signal we had practiced during our months under siege. *Get ready.*

"Maya," I whispered, kneeling down beside her. "Do you remember the song Mommy used to sing to you in the garden? The lullaby about the river?"

Maya looked up at me, her lower lip trembling, but she nodded. "The river that runs to the sea?"

"Yes, baby. I want you to walk up to that black table, put your little hand on that gold circle, and sing the first two lines for Mommy. Can you do that?"

"Will the bad man go away?" she whispered.

"The bad man will never touch you again," Vincent answered for me, his voice carrying the absolute weight of a blood vow.

Maya swallowed hard. She stepped out from behind my legs, her small sneakers squeaking softly on the polished concrete floor. She walked past the raised gun barrels of the four executioners, her tiny frame looking impossibly fragile beneath the cold, clinical lights of the vault.

She reached the granite table. She placed her right palm flat against the cold gold sensor.

The terminal flashed: *ACOUSTIC HARMONIC FREQUENCY DETECTED. ANALYZING INHERITANCE PROFILE.*

Maya closed her eyes, her sweet, trembling voice rising into the sterile air of the vault:

*"Where the cold river runs to the quiet deep sea...*

*Sleep, little swallow, and dream of me..."*

The terminal beeped sharply. The red progress bar flashed green: *BIOMETRIC IDENTITY CONFIRMED. HEIR OF JULIAN DE MARCO VERIFIED. MASTER ARCHIVE UNLOCKED.*

Lorenzo’s eyes widened with pure, unadulterated greed. He leaned forward, his hands reaching for the keyboard to execute the capital seizure. "Finally. The entire empire is—"

"Now!" Vincent roared.
