Chapter 31 - The Echoes of Geneva

The crisp autumn air of Switzerland carried the scent of pine and impending snow as the private executive jet touched down smoothly on the tarmac of Geneva International Airport.
Inside the cabin, Claire Whitmore fastened her tailored coat, her mind already racing through the itinerary for the European Real Estate Summit. Beside her, seven-year-old Clara was engrossed in sketching a new sustainable skyscraper design on her digital tablet, her brow furrowed with the same intense concentration that had defined her mother's rise to power.
Arthur Vance sat across the aisle, his weathered hands resting lightly on his titanium cane as he reviewed a secure intelligence briefing. Though the Vanguard syndicate had been dismantled in New York years ago, global finance was a hydra—chop off one head, and two more inevitably grew in the dark.
"The Swiss Federal Banking Commission has flagged an anomaly," Arthur said quietly, lowering the tablet. "A shell corporation named Helvetia Holdings has been quietly buying up commercial real estate parcels in Zurich and Geneva—parcels that directly border our newly acquired European headquarters."
Claire turned her gaze toward him, her eyes flashing with a cool, sharp intelligence. "Helvetia? That sounds suspiciously like a rebranded iteration of the old Janus assets. I thought we neutralized every subsidiary tied to Sterling's network."

"So did I," Arthur replied, his voice dropping into a dangerous register. "Which means someone survived the purge. Someone with deep pockets, institutional backing, and a personal grudge against the Whitmore name."
As the jet taxied toward the private hangar, Claire felt a familiar surge of cold, razor-sharp adrenaline. The shadows were trying to creep back in, but this time, she wasn't waiting for them to strike. She was going to hunt them down on their own turf.
