Chapter 7 - The Interrogation Room

The interrogation room at the Stamford Police Department smelled of stale coffee, old paper, and fluorescent ozone. The metal table reflected the harsh overhead light squarely onto Sarah’s face. She sat with her hands folded neatly on the table, her makeup immaculate despite the midnight hour, maintaining an air of haughty indignation.

Across from her sat Detective Thomas Vance and Marcus Vance.

"I demand to speak to my attorney immediately," Sarah said, her voice sharp and controlled. "Entering my home without a warrant, detaining my business associate Julian Sterling—this is an illegal harassment campaign, Marcus, and you will pay dearly for it in family court."

Detective Vance slid a thick manila folder across the metal table and opened it, revealing printed transcripts of encrypted text messages, high-resolution screenshots of the Clonidine prescription logs, and color stills extracted from the hidden camera videos.

"You can demand counsel all you want, Mrs. Vance, but before your lawyer arrives, you might want to look at what we recovered from your cloud storage and your secondary iPad," Detective Vance said smoothly.

Sarah glanced down at the photographs. For the first time, her icy composure cracked. Her eyes widened in horror as she saw the close-up images of the amber dropper bottle, the timestamped video frames of little Lily trembling on the rug, and the legal drafts outlining the asset transfer scheme for the Cape Cod property.

"This... this is fabricated," Sarah whispered, her voice losing its edge. "Those files were manipulated. Anyone can fake a video file nowadays with software."

"Is that right?" Marcus spoke up for the first time, leaning forward across the table, his voice low, steady, and terrifyingly calm. "Is the medical examiner's toxicology report on Lily's blood work fabricated, too? We took her to Stamford General Hospital two hours ago. The doctors found active metabolites of Clonidine in her bloodstream—levels high enough to cause severe neurological depression in a six-year-old child."

Sarah swallowed hard, her mouth opening and closing as she searched desperately for a lie that didn't exist anymore.

"You drugged my daughter," Marcus continued, his voice rising with suppressed fury. "You systematically poisoned her, tortured her mind, and recorded her suffering just so you could build a fraudulent paper trail to steal my home, my assets, and my child. And you did it while smiling in my face every single morning."

Detective Vance closed the folder with a sharp snap. "The charges against you and Julian Sterling include administration of noxious substances to a minor, child endangerment, conspiracy to commit fraud, and attempted grand larceny. Bail is being denied due to flight risk. Enjoy your stay in county lockup, Sarah."

As two female officers stepped into the room to escort Sarah away, she stared at Marcus with pure venom in her eyes. "You'll never get full custody without a mother in the picture, Marcus. You'll always be broken!"

"My daughter isn't broken," Marcus replied coldly as they pulled her chair back. "And she finally has her real family back."
