Chapter 8 - A New FoundationI raised an eyebrow, setting my coffee mug down. "Oh? And what reason is that? Did you forget your wedding planner’s business card?"

Ethan winced playfully, holding up his hands in surrender. "Ouch. Too soon. No, actually, it’s about Bennett Industries and the family trust."
Grandma Rose folded her hands neatly on the table, watching Ethan with an approving glint in her eye. "Go on, Ethan. Speak your mind."
"As you know," Ethan began, turning fully toward me, "my corporate portfolio has significant holdings in commercial real estate and sustainable urban development. For the past year, Brooke kept trying to push me to liquidate those assets to fund her high-society vanity projects—art galas, exclusive country club memberships, things that add zero value to the world."
He reached across the table, gently resting his hand near mine.
"But when I read the original charter of the Bennett family foundation—the one your grandfather established thirty years ago, Grandma—it was dedicated to community outreach, affordable housing, and vocational training for underprivileged youth."
My breath hitched. "That... that was my grandfather’s true passion project," I whispered. "Helen and Brooke spent years trying to defund it, claiming it didn't align with their 'brand image'."
"Exactly," Ethan said, his eyes locking onto mine with fierce determination. "Claire, the legal transfer of assets gives you absolute control over the entire Bennett trust, including the foundation. Mr. Sterling drew up the preliminary restructuring papers this morning. I want to partner with you. Not as a fiancé, not as a wealthy benefactor throwing money around to clear my conscience, but as an equal co-director. Let’s take everything Helen and Brooke tried to lock away for themselves and turn it into something that actually helps people."
I stared at him, completely stunned. For years, I had poured my heart into running a modest, underfunded community center on the wrong side of town, scraping together donations bake sale by bake sale, while my sister sneered at my efforts from her ivory tower.
And now? Overnight, the universe had handed me the keys to an empire—and a partner who actually wanted to use it for good.
Grandma Rose reached across the table and placed her hand over mine and Ethan's. "Do it, Claire. Your grandfather would be looking down from heaven right now with the biggest smile on his face."

I looked from Grandma’s proud, loving eyes to Ethan’s hopeful, steady gaze.
"Let's do it," I said softly.
