Chapter 27 - THE FORTRESS OF MAR DEL PLATA

The landing was brutal.
The private jet slammed onto an unlit concrete airstrip carved directly into the rocky cliffs overlooking the churning, black waters of the South Atlantic. Outside, the Antarctic wind screamed against the fuselage, whipping sea salt and stinging rain across the tarmac.
Four black armored Suburbans were waiting. Christian and Julian were escorted down the mobile stairway under the heavy muzzles of suppressed automatic rifles.
The compound was not a hospital. It was a brutalist concrete fortress, half-buried in the cliffside, surrounded by electrified razor wire and surveillance towers. Above the blast-proof steel entrance, carved deep into the monolithic concrete, was a single Latin phrase:
*SANGUIS NON MENTITUR* — Blood Does Not Lie.
They were ushered through three successive airlocks, each hissing open with industrial hydraulic pressure. The interior was blindingly white, smelling of sterile bleach, hospital-grade alcohol, and the faint, sweet scent of rotting flesh.
At the end of a long, subterranean corridor, behind a wall of reinforced bulletproof glass, lay Arthur Sterling.
The patriarch was almost unrecognizable. His once-regal frame was wasted down to skin and bone, his skin paper-thin and translucent like aged parchment. Tubes snaked into his neck, his arms, his chest. A massive mechanical ventilator wheezed rhythmically beside the bed, pumping artificial oxygen into his failing lungs.
Beside the bed stood a console fitted with two polished biometric glass plates.
Eleanora stepped up to the glass partition, her eyes alight with a terrifying, manic triumph.
"Look at him, Christian," she purred, tapping her fingernail against the glass. "The great Arthur Sterling. Reduced to twenty breaths a minute. When that monitor flatlines, fourteen billion dollars in Swiss-denominated sovereign bonds will either transfer to my personal foundation... or dissolve into the Argentine state."
Christian walked toward the glass, his heart pounding a violent rhythm against his ribs. "You aren't trying to save him. You brought us here to kill him."
"His heart is being maintained by an external pacemaker linked to that console," Julian said, pointing to the glowing terminals. "The biometric transfer executes the asset liquidation—and cuts the power to the life support simultaneously. It’s an automated execution clause."
Eleanora turned to Christian, her expression hardening into absolute ruthlessness.
"Place your palm on the first scanner, Christian. Or the guard behind you will put a bullet through Julian’s spine. You have ten seconds."
The guard cocked the hammer of his sidearm, pressing the cold steel barrel against the base of Julian’s neck.

Christian looked at Julian. The boy didn't flinch. He slowly raised his left hand, revealing a tiny silver key hidden beneath his fingernail.
