Chapter 113 - Touchdown on the Titan's Iron Deck

The helicopter slammed down onto the slick, wet flight deck with a violent shudder of landing gear.
Rotor blades slowed to a whining halt, cutting through the dense curtain of sea spray and fog.
Claire kicked the sliding side door open and stepped out onto the drenched non-skid surface.
Twenty private military contractors in unmarked black armor instantly formed a perimeter around the aircraft.
Every assault rifle was raised, lasers painting crimson dots across Claire’s chest and helmet.
None of them fired.
A tall figure in a heavy naval trench coat stepped forward through the ring of armed mercenaries.
Commander Douglas, Vance’s personal enforcer, stopped ten paces from Claire with a cold, mocking smirk.
"Surrender your sidearm and the dog tags, Commander," Douglas ordered over the howling wind.
Claire did not move, her gaze cutting through him like an obsidian blade.
"Touch either, and your men will be cleaning your teeth off this deck," Claire whispered.
Douglas’s smile vanished instantly, replaced by a flicker of primal fear.
He had heard the classified combat reports from the Kunar Valley; he knew what she was capable of.
"The Admiral is waiting in Sub-Level Three," Douglas said, swallowing hard as he lowered his hand.

Claire turned back to the helicopter, catching Miller's anxious eyes through the cockpit glass.
"Keep the turbines warm, Miller," she said quietly. "We won't be long."
