Chapter 9 - Rebuilding on My Own Terms

The morning after the wedding scandal, the financial and social fallout rippled across the city's high-society circles like an earthquake.

My mother’s phone calls had finally stopped entirely, replaced by a stunned, bitter silence. Realizing that her social standing had been permanently fractured and her fraudulent misbehavior securely documented in my legal vault, Eleanor had retreated into her country club seclusion, avoiding public events where she might run into the Hendersons or anyone else who had witnessed her public humiliation at the reception.

Paige, meanwhile, had called me once—not to apologize, but to scream accusations about how I had “ruined her special day.” I calmly listened for ten seconds before cutting her off.

“Paige,” I said evenly, “you wore a three-hundred-hour custom masterpiece designed, funded, and gifted by the person you spent years mocking. You got your dream wedding, your expensive dress, and your high-society husband. But your free ride with my name, my money, and my patience is permanently over. Do not call me again.”

I hung up and blocked her number, along with every other toxic relative who had enabled their behavior.

My studio, on the other hand, was experiencing an unprecedented surge of momentum. With the international magazine feature hitting newsstands and the corporate world buzzing about Bellamy Atelier’s true leadership, major international clients were lining up at our doors. Investors from New York and London were actively reaching out to secure partnerships, recognizing the raw creative genius and iron-clad business acumen that had built the firm from the ground up.

I stood by the large studio windows, watching the morning rush hour flow past on the streets below. The tiny loft space that my family had mocked for years suddenly felt less like a temporary hideout and more like the impenetrable fortress of an independent empire.

Marcus stepped into the office, carrying a stack of new international contracts and a steaming mug of tea.

“We just received a formal acquisition inquiry from a major European fashion conglomerate,” Marcus said, raising an eyebrow as he handed me the tablet. “They want to discuss a partnership with Bellamy Atelier. And get this—they specifically requested to deal directly with the founder and CEO.”

I took the tablet, scrolling through the lucrative figures with a quiet, confident smile.

“Tell them we’re expanding independently,” I replied without hesitation. “We don’t need conglomerates. We built this on our own terms, and we’ll keep growing on our own terms.”

May you like

Marcus grinned, nodding in full agreement. “Done.”

For the first time in my life, I didn't feel the need to look back over my shoulder, seeking approval from people who would never understand my worth. The past was burned away, leaving behind a future shaped entirely by my own hands, my own talent, and my own unbreakable strength.
